Shrubs - Just Arrived

Shrubs, along with trees, form the backbone structure of the garden design. They provide huge variation in their form, adaptability, tolerance and usage. They are selected for the colour of flower or foliage and for the shapes that they create, either naturally or by pruning. Shrubs lend themselves well to the formation of Topiary and Hedges.

Although some people regard shrubs as miniature trees, they have completely different growth habits. Some can sucker themselves and send creeping underground stems which root and thereby propagate themselves, whilst others renew themselves after hard pruning.

A wonderful mounding foliage shrub from our Australian neighbours. 'Limelight' has a big, bushy, 'fro hair do made up of fine cascading green foliage. Well behaved in a container or the garden. Great landscaping plant. Happy in sun or part shade in light well drained soil. Evergreen PVR.

Acacia 'Limelight' should only be given a very light dressing of slow release fertilizer in the autumn as it is not a greedy plant and shouldn't be over fertilized.

Paniculata. An award winning Hydrangea with large conical flower heads that put on a magnificent display in summer-autumn. The flowers open to a fresh shade of chartreuse, then gradually turn cream and finally become a deep smoky shade of pink. Best in humus rich soil, sun or part shade. Deciduous.

As this Hydrangea flowers on the new growth it is best pruned in early spring if in fact any pruning is required. If left to grow to its full potential it will put on a stunning display. Quite fast growing - the bloom colour is reliable regardless of the soil pH.
