aka Birds Nest Fern

Probably better known as Bird's Nest Fern is a very striking feature plant with its bright green, wavy edged fronds that grow in a rosette shape forming a bowl or nest shape in the centre. Can be grown as an indoor plant for air purification or outside. Frost tender.

Thriving in the low light it is an excellent container plant for a sheltered and shaded patio or shade house in warm climates.

This NZ native Fern makes a striking cover plant for shady situations. Looks good group planted beneath established trees and is useful to plant with Hostas carrying on the interest after the Hostas have died down. Likes the shade and nice moist humus rich soil. Protect from frost.

Evergreen Tree fern. Reddish brown, very thick trunk with a beautiful crown of dark green fronds approx 1-2m in length and pale underneath. Easily grown and frost hardy. Likes sun or shade but best kept in a cool damp climate. Water well while establishing.

Native. This is the most common tree fern found in forests throughout New Zealand. It is a medium sized tree fern., fastest growing and tolerates a wide range of conditions. The fronds are harsh to touch and are dark green above and paler on the underside. Water well. Evergreen.

Pukupuku. This little native fern loves a shady moist spot with protection from harsh frost. The new leaves emerge in tones of pink slowly turning to fresh green with some bronze tones. Attractive serrated leaflets. Evergreen.

Native to NZ. It is a beautiful plant with sickle-shaped dark green fronds that sit quite upright. They can be a bit tricky in that they can look great one year and then lose a lot of their fronds next year - can be grown outdoors or indoors. Likes the morning sun and a slightly damp situation.

With long, wavy, blue-green leaf fronds this is a stuuning specimen to have in a hanging basket or pot/container in a sheltered position. Avoid draughts and loves to be mist sprayed on the foliage rather than watered. Can be used indoors and is an air-purifying plant.

aka King Fern or Marattia Salicina

Native. The majestic King Fern is highly palatable to goats, pigs and deer so is sadly not as common in the wild as it once was. It has beautiful dark green fronds which can reach 3.5 – 4m in length. The King Fern needs shade, frost protection and constant moisture to look its best. Protect from frost when young. Evergreen.
