Alstroemeria which are well known as the Peruvian lily originated in South America Almost all of the species are restricted to one of two distinct centers of diversity, one in central Chile, the other in eastern Brazil. Species of Alstroemeria from Chile are winter-growing plants while those of Brazil are summer-growing. All are solid producer of colour in the garden bed from spring and a good diverse planting will often carry flowering right through to early autumn. The colour range is phenomenal and these hardy plants are low maintenance easy care as long as they have good sun and drainage.
