A beautiful, slow growing, large tree with distinctive buttresses at the trunk base. The toothed foliage is round and glossy green. An excellent tree for growing in swampy areas and low lying gullies in forest and in the West Coastal in the South Island. NZ Native. Evergreen.

They do best in wetter sites on edges of streams or lakes. Can be a good for stabilizing banks because of its shallow root system.
