Betula aka Birch, is a deciduous hardwood tree, The bark of all birches is characteristically marked with long, horizontal or mottled markings. The bark colour is often used to when naming species – eg white birch, silver birch. Birches are generally small to medium size trees, with a tall trunk and smallish leaves that develop into a light canopy.
