A new server for the office
Hi
Harry was yapping to a client yesterday, sharing his day at the Avantidrome in Cambridge, LOL reliving the moment and extolling the virtues of the royal visit. Actually there were other shoppers in on the conversation and they all agreed what a lovely couple and how neat the royal visit was for NZ.
Harry then moved right along to, today, saying, wouldn't it be wonderful to go to the centenary Anzac celebrations in Gallipoli. Janet excitedly boasted about how they were off to Gallipoli next year. She and hubby had entered a ballot draw and won a place to attend along with 900 odd other couples. Apparently you could only attend the centenary if you were also a direct descendant. She was so excited, as if you knew Janet, could only be and had on her agenda to go to Istanbul for a few days as well. Well you would, wouldn't you, methinks it would be more than a few days if it was moi!
Then next on Harry's conversation list was how good the shopping was in Turkey and Istanbul especially. We went there a while back and met up with one of H's brothers and spent a little time in Istanbul. The grand bazaar was probably a favorite shopping haunt. Everything there was Turkish made and H was heard saying to Janet "Our biggest mistake was that we didn't do enough shopping". as if he needs any encouragement!!!!!!
Now my Anzac day today started with watching the breakfast dawn service and then over to work as usual to open up the nursery. Our Technical guy and ourselves taking advantage of being closed for the morning to update our server and all that other boring stuff. Its quite tricky to find the time in a seven day business and of course being online 24/7 to find a space in which to do such upgrades. Hopefully it will all go well and we will be open at 1pm with at least the shop all working.
It seems that all the important calender dates are all very close this year as Easter ran into Anzac day and now Mothers day is not so far away. A day to spoil mum, whether it be, going to visit, cooking a meal or just doing something that is nice. If your mum is keen on the garden, then we will have some early stock in of the rose,
Mum in a Million. I have to say that it is a great rose with much going on for it. Healthy disease free foliage, Beautiful rose pink flowers with an awesome fragrance and what a neat pressie.
There is also a new pink lavender out called
With love and a Gardenia called
True love and even a Camellia called
Mothers day aptly named because its in flower at this time of year. Now if you really get stuck for a pressie then we can send out vouchers.
If you want to send plants for mothers day then the Wednesday of theweek will be the last day for dispatch. If you have a problem ordering or wish toknow more then just email us by return. If you want the rose Mum in a million to be sent out then be in as there are limited numbers at this time of year.
If you have a planting project then now is the time!!
Its perfect weather for all manner of planting and yesterdays rain made it even better, I reckon that the Autumn is really a top time of year to get into the garden and plant. New gardens,
hedges of all types and borders and generally just changing things around.
I love
hedges as living wall of green and they are often way cheaper than putting in a fence, yes I know they need to be maintained to keep them looking their best but usually two trims a year is suffice and after each growing season of spring and Autumn. Camellias can be a bit slower but are very tough and hardy and also quite long term. They will respond to being cut back quite hard and old hedges will regenerate from quite severe pruning as well.
Horn beams or Carpinus make for a pretty cool hedge even though they loose their leaves, I always say to people that when hedges you still cant really see through them as all the small twiggy growths blurr your vision through, beside they don't generally loose their leaves until the new ones come through.
Just in case you didnt know already Autumn is my favourite season, I just love all the autumn tones of the leaves and fruits. Take Diospryos kaki ( how would you say that name) or
Persimmon for example, Such a stunning feature tree, Gorgeous lime green new foliage green leaves in the summer and at this time of year studded with orange fruits and folaige that will turn burgundy red with the cool nights. I have a non astringent cultivar Fuji in my garden as a feature tree in the first courtyard and its just fab right now. Got to say that the fruit is delicious to eat as well. The white ducks that have been cruising around the garden centre lately have found the trees and often check it out for the wind fall fruit. Check them out on
Facebook. Then is even a pic of our persimmon tree there.
Hope that every ones school holidays are going well with another week to go. It was definitely an Autumn day with the other morn with a reported 5 C and the Waikato fogs that have started to roll in. Not too long now and we we will be knee deep in potting mix bagging all the new seasons roses and we will be well out of mischief and hopefully Dad will be keeping us well fed with those delicious Feijoa and coconut cakes.
Enjoy the long weekend!!
Oh by the way there are still plenty of deciduous trees in the sales area from $20 for those looking for a deal but unfortunately not in stock any more. Excellent for tree plantings.
Roses still at 50% off and there are still deals to be had, Check the
Family deals out or come out for a drive, the garden is looking great too!
Cheers
