Roses On Sale

Hi

Summer is about Family and Friends

Doesn't it all come in waves, last weekend we had Anthony's gorgeous niece and nephew to stay. It was our weekend off and I thought that I was going to get a bit of work done  but hey that was the wrong thought. The day started off with two Weetbix, and fresh fruit. Next on the agenda was walking the dogs (one each for every one) followed by fluffies (frothy milk drinks) at the local cafe then back home for a proper breakfast of sausages, bacon and eggs. The main event of the day was the swim at the beach and lessons on the boogie boards.
Anthony's parents joined us as well, every evening for dinner and to spend time with the kids too.

This weekends is all go too. Our best friend Cherie and Mark (should I say from Aussie) with their two kids, well now mid twenties, with boys and girlfriends in tow to stay for the next few nights, all to celebrate their dads/granddads big 90 years young. It was a big surprise for Dick to have the whole family out  and so there was a lot of catching up to do, all over a few beers and chilled white wines last night.
They arrived at the nursery yesterday arvo, settled in and then checked out the nursery from top to bottom.
Now we have had a little project on the go over the past few months and that has been to make the villa at the nursery into self contained accommodation and its now up and ready for booking.  Cherie's hubby Mark is one of the chief concierges at the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney and has been giving us a few pointers to look out for. Fresh paint, new carpet and freshly decked out the place is looking pretty cool.

Of course we have also been busy in the garden and so all the hedges are now trimmed  and looking pretty awesome I have to say. I'm now planning to do up some gardens over at our new house so will do a whole heap of planting and mulching. There is a whole bank that I'm planning to plant over so that it doesn't grow any weeds. I also need to extend a hedge line so maybe next week.  LOL there is always a project on the go here.

Plant of my week
Smoke bush is its common name and and we have managed to acquire small numbers of a hybrid form called Grace.  Cotinus Grace is a cross between the species Coggygria and Obovatus, if you want to be technical, but the cool thing about this plant/shrub is that it has the most awesome Spring and Autumn leaves and wait there's more - it also has plumey pink flowers (smoke like in appearance from a distance) in summer. The beauty of this plant is that its a really cool plant in a shrubbery or, for those that want a small tree, it could be limbed up and trained as a small tree of approx 2.5 to 3 metres. Ideal for those sections where you don't want a big tall tree.

Deals on at the Moment

Roses....  all existing stocks of roses are now 25% of their normal price. These  are all good plants, that have been sprayed, fed cut back ready to burst back for that last autumn flush and watered all spring and summer. We need to start making a move now so that we have space again for the new seasons stock due in the June. If we don't currently have what you are after then feel free to order for June delivery. Email Rosemary on backorders@wairere.co.nz
Hostas ... There are great plants from $5.00  to choose from and also some from the larger grade that have $5.00 off making them just $12.99 for a well clumped plant.
Cape Gooseberry You just have to grow your own sweet little gooseberries and so easy. Bung them in and forget and in no time will have masses of those lantern like paper outer and that sweet juicy berry inside.  Cape gooseberry jam springs to mind.  These are also down by half price to $7.99.

Berberis Hellmond Pillar  beaut plants approx 70 cm high in burgundy tones and column habit. Tough and hardy and easily grown. Great landscape effect planted as accents or in a row normally $19.99 these are just half price.

Snowball tree or  Viburnum Opulus Sterile  these chunky field grown plants  are still half price too!

Polygala Petite Butterfly. This is a little beauty, petite bushy plant with pinky purplish pea like flowers. It suits a sunny spot.... Nice and tidy in habit Normally $19.99 these just $14.99

Alternanthera Little Ruby Now this is a newbee to me but the colour of the foliage is just stunning. apparaently sensitive to the frost so may be in a cool climate treat as an annual or keep to a warm possie. I will have to plant some in my garden just to learn some more about. Normally $19.99 these just $14.99
Don't forget to see all our specials available via the Family Deals page.

Something a tad different

Origanum Brilliantissimo   OMG.....  this has a way neat spreading habit and pinkish mauve flowers and seems to have a habit like the classic oregano. It even has fragrant leaves. Sunny disposition and good drainage. I Imagine that a cut back will produce masses of blooms a second and third time.

Lomandra White Sands The Aussie grasses are pretty reliable, performing well. They manage to stay neat and tidy and prefer a bright, light position and well drained soils.

New in this week

Acacia Limelight
.... Definitely a plant for a dry spot and sun. I have seen these as large grades in pots and they surely will turn heads with their cascading habit of bright lime green foliage, just don't over water them. Apparently the grower has them in what is like a water bed where they fill the bed just once a week and then drain all of the water out and that's it!

Colocasia Black Coral  fancy word for the beautiful dark taro. Easily grown and just so suitable for that foliage look.

Camellias are now rolling in. We are earlier this year in having these in and available.  Not all varieties have arrived yet but have a good chunk of the hedging sasanquas in the nursery and have even managed to get away stock of the japonicas and hybrids.  If you are after Camellias check out Just Arrived on the website.
Remember that you can have your plants delivered to you by ordering at the website but you can also have them allocated for you if they aren't in stock by placing an order for the plants you want.

Cordyline Red fountain spectacular coloured foliage and flax like habit and just as its names suggests, must have good drainage but OH so worth growing.  be quite a neat pot plant or accent in the garden.

Hydrangea Paniculata Limelight a paniculata form and such a gorgeous shade of lime green flowers simply make a must have. Have some more stocks of these just in..
Hopefully we might get some rain over the weekend to soften the soil and I can get onto doing some more planting. Still have some hedges to do so so have planned another day in the garden.

Its off to a 90 years young party for us this  Saturday evening and that's going to be a blast catching up with everyone.
