aka Sedge

Attractive NZ native grass that forms a clump of tussock-like foliage. The leaves are a dark bronze purple. Upright and graceful, looks fabulous planted in large drifts. Hardy to just about any conditions but happiest in a sunny position that does not dry out completely in summer. Evergreen.

Native tussock grass with an attractive densely tufted fine bronze foliage. This grass does best in full sun and will grow in quite swampy conditions. Useful for special effects in landscaping when mass planted. Brown flower heads in summer. Evergreen.

This native 'grass' is really tough and hardy tolerating cold winds and almost any soil. The brick-orange foliage looks very graceful as it waves and dances in the wind. Ideal for planting in large drifts. If the clumps become a little untidy just chop back hard for renewed vigour. Evergreen.

Unique, unusual shrub that forms a cushiony mound of slender, twisting, intertwining branchlets. The stems have a golden tone. Suitable for Coastal planting.

Native. A spreading coprosma with dark brown foliage which darkens in winter to near black. Hardy and easy to grow. Makes a great groundcover for those tough spots in the garden. Will tolerate coastal conditions. Evergreen.

NZ Native. This form was discovered on cliffs near Hawera. It is a ground hugging native that forms a tight mat of small narrow olive green leaves. Excellent landscape plant for covering large areas of ground. Hardy, tolerant of cold and wind. Evergreen.

This little Coprosma was discovered growing on the South Wellington coast so you know how tough and hardy it is to have survived there. Strong red/orange coloured leaves and stems. Tolerant of wind, salt and dry periods. Excellent ground cover that is happy to be trimmed. Evergreen.

This is a great little shrub that will grow just about anywhere, even dry, windy difficult sites. Narrow green leaves and a 'zig zag' branch pattern certainly add interest as do the bright yellow flowers that appear in spring. Red berries follow the flowers that will attract birds to your garden. Native. Ake Ake. A no fuss evergreen foliage shrub that can be used for hedging or background planting. The slightly wavy leaves are shaded purple and bronze and will have better colour if not over-fed or pampered. Will grow just about anywhere except full shade. Evergreen.

Native. This little mountain Hebe has a somewhat prostrate spreading habit and is an ideal rockery plant. The little leaves are rounded and grey green. White flower spikes appear from spring through to autumn. Needs a sunny spot and well drained to dry soil. Quite hardy. Evergreen.

aka Topiarists Hebe

A lovely neat and tidy Hebe that always looks like it has just been clipped hence the common name of Topiarist's Hebe. The dainty grey-green leaves on short stems form a rounded compact mound. Use in groups or as an ideal contrast plant. Likes the sun and well drained soil. Hardy and evergreen.

Hebe Topiaria will occasionally flower in summer with little white flowers that are rather inconspicuous. Its value is as a foliage shrub and is highly enough thought of to have received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Native. The term 'tenax' means strong and tough and this NZ Flax certainly is all of that. Broad swords of green foliage form strong clumps that are perfect for mass planting along stream banks, around ponds or naturalising in the landscape. Tolerant of just about anything. Evergreen.

The summer flowers are much loved by birds especially the native Tui whose beak is perfectly formed to gather nectar from the blooms.
