aka Chinese Maple Trident Maple

Spring growth emerges coppery-red and matures to a glossy dark green in summer. During autumn the leaves display red, yellow and orange. This small, sturdy maple has an oval to rounded, slightly spreading form. Bark is pale brown and attractively dappled with a papery texture. Deciduous.

Hornbeam. Ideal tree for hedging or pleaching. Attractive oval green ribbed foliage that has good autumn tones before turning brown. The leaves hold on the tree well into winter. Smooth grey bark, ornamental catkins in spring followed by ornamental winged seed 'nuts'. Deciduous.

aka Hazel

Attractive yellow catkins appear in spring and are followed by rounded, coarse, ribbed foliage that is a soft green. A hardy ornamental tree that is easy to grow in a semi-shaded spot. Do not allow to completely dry out in summer. Deciduous.

aka Twisted Hazelnut or Harry Lauders Walking Stick

Twisted Hazelnut AKA Harry Lauder's Walking Stick. This unusual Hazelnut looks its best when it is bare in winter. The fascinating twisted and contorted branches are always a talking point. Attractive catkins in spring and fresh green foliage in summer. Easy to grow in sun or part shade.

This tree also makes an attractive container plant but must be well watered in summer to avoid leaf scorch. The (Sir) Harry Lauder referred to was a well known Scottish Entertainer who was often seen with a twisted walking stick.

Fastigiate Beech. A tall columnar green Beech that has a neat and tidy upright form. The foliage is rounded and deep green tinged with just a little bronze turning to orange tones in autumn. Originating from Dawyck Scotland in the 1840's. Happy in sun or part shade. Deciduous.

aka Purple Fastigiate Beech

Purple Fastigiate Beech. Originating from Dawyck, Scotland this narrow columnar form of beech is a handsome architectural specimen indeed. Large deep purple foliage on upward growing branches from spring to autumn. Plant in sun or part shade. Deciduous. RHS AGM.

Dawyck Botanic Gardens in Scotland boasts a world-class arboretum where many specimens of Beech tree grow. Fastigiate means branches that taper naturally upwards forming a narrow column of growth.

aka Golden rain tree

This is a small, open branched, deciduous tree with a rounded crown. Leaves emerge pinkish bronze to purplish in spring, mature to a bright green in summer and turn yellow in fall. Bright yellow flowers appear early summer an change to brown, papery seed capsules which resemble Chinese lanterns.

Vance Hooper who bred this tree proudly received the 'Best New Tree' Award at Essen, Germany in 2012.

The Japanese name Amanogawa means 'Milky Way' describing the tree in full bloom. The Royal Horticultural Society have given this tree an Award of Garden Merit.
