Sasanqua. A top performing Camellia that flowers from early autumn through to early winter. The blooms are double white, with just a hint of blush pink on the outer edges. Upright vigorous habit. Happiest in semi-shade.

Hybrid. This beautiful Camellia has tight bright pink buds that open to miniature, single, apple-blossom pink blooms which are lightly fragrant. A pretty Camellia which would suit a small courtyard or patio area. Flowers for a long period. Happiest in semi-shade with acid soil. Evergreen.

aka Hair Sedge

Native. A lovely soft bronze- red grass with fine tufts of arching foliage. Grows in a wide range of conditions including coastal. Comans means "like a luxuriant head of hair" hence the common name of 'Hair Sedge'. Looks its best in large drifts. Evergreen.

aka Tussock, NZ Sedge

This native 'grass' is really tough and hardy tolerating cold winds and almost any soil. The brick-orange foliage looks very graceful as it waves and dances in the wind. Ideal for planting in large drifts. If the clumps become a little untidy just chop back hard for renewed vigour. Evergreen.

The gorgeous warm bronze leaf tones of this native Corokia make it highly desirable for contrast planting. 'Bronze King' has a tight, compact habit making it perfect for hedging. Trims well. Tough, hardy and easy to grow in just about any conditions including coastal. Evergreen.

Native. Chocolate without the calories! The soft melted chocolate colour of the leaves combines well with other foliage and looks fantastic as a formal hedge with a difference. Easy to grow and clips extremely well. Yellow flowers in spring followed by berries that birds love. Evergreen.

Native. This form of Korokio or Corokia was discovered at the Mangatangi dam in the Hinua ranges hence the name. The foliage is silver green and has quite a 'misty' look. Yellow flowers in spring followed by berries. A great shrub for group planting or hedging, tough, hardy and evergreen.

A compact dwarf Escallonia with vibrant glossy leaves and brilliant pink bell-shaped flowers from late Spring to late Summer. Fast growing, it will develop into a showy hedge, clips well. The heady perfume of this deliciously fragrant evergreen shrub makes it a winner for planting near a window or doorway. Bright glossy dark green leaves, pure white double rosettes of fragrance in early summer. Plant in a warm, frost free position. Feed regularly for best results.

Gardenias will grow happily in a pot as long as they are fed and watered regularly. They are gross feeders and respond well to regular liquid feeding. They can take a little sun but in NZ they are best protected from the hot afternoon sun.

Native. A selected form of the ever popular Griselinia. Gorgeous, broad, glossy green foliage with attractive wavy margins. Ideal background shrub but at its best when used as a hedge. Tolerant of just about any planting conditions including coastal. Very tidy and well groomed. Evergreen.

Native. An easy to grow shrub which is invaluable for difficult sites as it is tolerant of almost any conditions including coastal. Fresh bright green foliage highlighted by red stems. Particularly useful for hedging. Always looks neat and tidy, trims exceptionally well. Evergreen.

This little Iris has to be one of my favourite NZ natives as it has such dainty white "butterfly" flowers. The narrow sword like leaves form a strong clump, the flowers appear in summer followed by ornamental seed pods. Easy to grow in average soil in a sunny position. Evergreen.

Port Wine Magnolia. The dark wine-red blooms of this adaptable evergreen shrub are a little shy, hiding amongst the glossy green foliage. You'll definitely know they're there when you become intoxicated by the powerful fruity fragrance. Plant in sun or part shade with acid soil for best results.

Great little ground cover with fine narrow dark green leaves that form soft mats that hug the ground. Trouble free and easy to grow. Palest mauve flowers hide amongst the foliage and are followed by little blue berries. Grow in full sun or part shade. Evergreen.

Native. A particularly nice form of Pittosporum with fresh green glossy foliage that always looks good. Perfect plant for screens and hedging as it responds well to clipping. Happiest in sun or part shade and likes well drained fertile soil, is tolerant of less than ideal conditions. Hardy and evergreen.

Pittosporums bloom in spring with inconspicuous dark purple-brown flowers that will only come to your attention when you notice their strong fragrance on the evening air.

NZ Native. This shrub is very well named - the tiny rounded leaves are a pale silvery green and certainly do seem to shimmer in the light. Forms a very nice background plant or can be used for hedging and topiary as it loves a regular hair-cut. Easy to grow in a sunny well drained spot. Evergreen.
