aka Autumn Sedge

Wetland Native - Autumn Sedge. Attractive tufts of coarse green foliage with strong bronze tones. Summer seed-heads of dark brown. Will grow happily in moist damp conditions in sun or part shade. Tough and robust, great for mass planting in difficult spots. Evergreen.

aka Tussock, NZ Sedge

This native 'grass' is really tough and hardy tolerating cold winds and almost any soil. The brick-orange foliage looks very graceful as it waves and dances in the wind. Ideal for planting in large drifts. If the clumps become a little untidy just chop back hard for renewed vigour. Evergreen.

NZ Native Grass that is a successful colonising plant often used for wetland planting that can also grow on dry sites making it suitable for planting where the conditions may vary periodically. Virgata is a mass of green needle foliage. Tolerant coastal condition. Evergreen.

Native. A wiry prostrate shrub at home in dry coastal conditions. Twisting interlacing branches with chocolate brown foliage. Bright blue bead-like berries in autumn. Makes a thick dense mat. Good on dunes, banks and walls. Evergreen.

aka Mirror Plant

Native. A fabulous foliage plant with clean shiny foliage that has golden tones in summer. As autumn approaches and the temperatures drop the foliage gradually changes to tones of deep orange and fiery red. Will grow just about anywhere but needs protection from harsh frost. Evergreen. PVR1086.

'Evening Glow' will benefit from a hair cut every now and then. This is best done around about February on a warm dry day.

aka Sand Dune Coprosma

NZ Native. This form was discovered on cliffs near Hawera. It is a ground hugging native that forms a tight mat of small narrow olive green leaves. Excellent landscape plant for covering large areas of ground. Hardy, tolerant of cold and wind. Evergreen.

Native. A great little shrub with glossy dark red foliage that looks good all year round. Use for contrast planting in the shrubbery or as a hedge with a difference. Loves to be clipped. Will grow in sun or light shade, tolerates coastal conditions and light frost. Evergreen. PVR

aka Mirror Plant

Native. Named for where it grows naturally - the Poor Knights Islands - this Coprosma is valued for the beautiful glossy green and evergreen foliage. Its growth habit is low and wide so it makes a good filler for banks etc. Likes the sun and can tolerate dry coastal conditions but not frost.

This little Coprosma was discovered growing on the South Wellington coast so you know how tough and hardy it is to have survived there. Strong red/orange coloured leaves and stems. Tolerant of wind, salt and dry periods. Excellent ground cover that is happy to be trimmed. Evergreen.

Native. Chocolate without the calories! The soft melted chocolate colour of the leaves combines well with other foliage and looks fantastic as a formal hedge with a difference. Easy to grow and clips extremely well. Yellow flowers in spring followed by berries that birds love. Evergreen.

Native. A selected form of the ever popular Griselinia. Gorgeous, broad, glossy green foliage with attractive wavy margins. Ideal background shrub but at its best when used as a hedge. Tolerant of just about any planting conditions including coastal. Very tidy and well groomed. Evergreen.

aka Hebe or Veronica

This little Hebe hybrid is well named as it is indeed delightful. Fresh green narrow foliage and pretty sprays of white flowers from spring to summer. Sometimes the blooms have just a hint of soft lilac. Always looks neat and tidy. Happy in a sunny well drained position. Evergreen.

Prune your Hebe 'Otari Delight' lightly after flowering to encourage new growth. This Hebe was found as a seedling in Otari-Wilton's Bush in Wellington hence the name.

aka Hebe or Veronica

Native. This little mountain Hebe has a somewhat prostrate spreading habit and is an ideal rockery plant. The little leaves are rounded and grey green. White flower spikes appear from spring through to autumn. Needs a sunny spot and well drained to dry soil. Quite hardy. Evergreen.

aka Topiarists Hebe

A lovely neat and tidy Hebe that always looks like it has just been clipped hence the common name of Topiarist's Hebe. The dainty grey-green leaves on short stems form a rounded compact mound. Use in groups or as an ideal contrast plant. Likes the sun and well drained soil. Hardy and evergreen.

Hebe Topiaria will occasionally flower in summer with little white flowers that are rather inconspicuous. Its value is as a foliage shrub and is highly enough thought of to have received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Bred by Jack Hobbs from the Auckland Botanical Gardens this is a tolerant little Hebe with delightful bright pink flowers that smother the stems from early summer. Dainty small leaves that clip well - makes a tidy low hedge. Plant in a sunny well drained position. Very easy care. Evergreen.

Evergreen Hebe which is considered one of the best. Hardy, compact with dainty fresh green foliage and short spikes of white flowers which completely smother the plant from late spring through until summer. Happiest in a sunny well drained position. Very disease resistant. Evergreen
