Handsome shrub with attractive silver grey foliage with soft felted undersides. Bright yellow daisy flowers appear in summer but really the foliage is the main feature. Plant in a sunny well drained position. Tends to have a fairly open habit but can be trimmed to keep compact. Evergreen.

A slow growing compact form of Box with a naturally rounded shape. In spring the fresh new growth is shaded a beautiful soft lime green turning to a darker glossy green on maturity. Easy to grow in sun or part shade. Evergreen.

'Green Gem' is the perfect choice for a low hedge as it doesn't need as much clipping as other Buxus due to its compact habit. Nice for topiary work too. Though 'Green Gem' is very tolerant and hardy it prefers not to have 'wet feet' in winter - quite understandable, I don't much like wet feet myself!

One of the best plants available to light up a shady area. New foliage is soft lime green and gradually turns to more golden tones. The flowers are a rosy pink and appear in summer. Happiest with protection from the afternoon sun. Trims well. Evergreen.

A delicious and delectable Gardenia with large glossy green foliage and large fully double flowers which appear from spring to summer. The flowers are creamy white and carry a heady scent. Happiest in morning sun or part shade in rich acid soil. Protect from harsh frost. Evergreen.

Remember that Gardenias are gross feeders and respond well to regular liquid feeding.

The heady perfume of this deliciously fragrant evergreen shrub makes it a winner for planting near a window or doorway. Bright glossy dark green leaves, pure white double rosettes of fragrance in early summer. Plant in a warm, frost free position. Feed regularly for best results.

Gardenias will grow happily in a pot as long as they are fed and watered regularly. They are gross feeders and respond well to regular liquid feeding. They can take a little sun but in NZ they are best protected from the hot afternoon sun.

A free flowering shrub with dark green foliage that is white underneath. 'Spidery' clusters of bright red and yellow flowers put on a display from winter through to summer. Likes a nice hot dry spot free from frost. Not fussy about soil type and doesn't need fertilizer to do well. Evergreen.

A tough little Aussie that thrives on neglect. Small grey-green rounded foliage. Distinctive creamy white and red shaggy flowers are produced en mass during winter and spring. Happiest in a sunny well drained position. No need to fertilize, will cope with strong wind and poor soil.

Paniculata. This brilliant Hydrangea is the reddest of all Hydrangea paniculata varieties. During early summer it unfurls very large heads of white flowers. These flowers gradually turn pink and as summer moves into autumn a spectacular purple shaded red.

aka Pee Gee Hydrangea

Paniculata. An award winning Hydrangea with large conical flower heads that put on a magnificent display in summer-autumn. Flowers open a fresh shade of chartreuse, then gradually turn cream and finally become a deep smoky shade of pink. Best in humus rich soil, sun or part shade. Deciduous.

As this Hydrangea flowers on the new growth it is best pruned in early spring if in fact any pruning is required. If left to grow to its full potential it will put on a stunning display. Quite fast growing - the bloom colour is reliable regardless of the soil pH. Information Pages

Paniculata. Sundae Fraise is exceptional for its smaller proportions. It grows well and has a very bushy, semi-upright, well balanced low growth. The red brown stems bear perfect, medium sized panicles. The abundant green and white sterile flowers quickly turn pink. Deciduous.

Fabulous form and foliage make this Holly a useful and desirable plant. Growing naturally upright and columnar it looks great in containers or used as an accent point. Happy in sun or part shade. Small white flowers followed by black berries but these are fairly inconspicuous. Evergreen.

This is also a useful plant where a narrow screen or hedge is required, it will do the job without dominating or becoming a constant trimming problem.
