This interesting foliage shrub comes to us from "across the ditch" and is a useful landscaping or container plant. The lime green 'curvaceous' foliage forms a compact weeping mound. Will do best in well drained, light soil in sun or part shade.

Acacia 'Curvaceous' should only be given a very light dressing of slow release fertilizer in the autumn as it is not a greedy plant and shouldn't be over fertilized.

aka Lemon verbena

Lemon Verbena. This open and rangy shrub will not win you over with its looks but will wow you with the delicious aromatic fragrance. Likes good drainage, sunlight and tolerant of light frost. Steep leaves in water to make a refreshing drink. Deciduous.

Give this plant a good tidy up every now and then with sharp secateurs - it will respond well. Small sprays of pale lavender flowers appear in summer but it is really the foliage that makes this shrub desirable.

aka Japanese Laurel

An unusual shrub which is valued for its ability to grow in difficult conditions - it will even cope with dry shade but doesn't like harsh frost. The large, glossy, green leaves are splashed and spotted with yellow and will light up a dull corner. Male cultivar. Evergreen.

Native. An evergreen native shrub with long grey-green leaves with felted white under-sides. In summer lemon daisy like flowers appear in abundance. Has a slightly open mounding habit - responds well to hard pruning if necessary. Prefers a well drained spot. Wind and coastal tolerant. Good for rockeries and exposed areas.

Beautiful waxy white flowers on long stems in spring and summer. The flowers release their fragrance in the evening. Plant in a sunny sheltered spot in the garden. A great plant for containers. Evergreen.

Brunsfelsia should be pruned lightly after flowering.

A compact, dwarf form of the ever popular Australian 'Bottle Brush'. Masses of dark red flowers in summer that attract birds. Loves the sun and good drainage and will be quite drought tolerant once established. Tidy grey-green stiff foliage. Could be used as a hedge.

A small, evergreen shrub with a natural rounded form with narrow green leaves and dark, crimson-red bottlebrush flowers that appear Spring through to late Autumn. Plant in full sun to light shade. Suitable for growing in coastal areas and tolerates periods of drought. Attracts bees and nectar-feeding birds.

Mexican Orange Blossom. This elegant shrub has fine narrow dark green aromatic foliage. In summer pink buds open out to a mass of white starry flowers. Very pretty as a back-ground shrub in the border. Will grow in sun or part shade and is quite undemanding and hardy. Evergreen.

Morning Glory Bush. One of the best silver foliage shrubs available. Looks fabulous planted in a group. Pure white open trumpet flowers produced en masse from summer through to autumn. As with most grey foliage plants happiest in sunny position with good drainage. Evergreen.

Smoke Bush. A unique form of this easy to grow multi-stemmed shrub that has golden-green foliage from spring to summer. Combines particularly well with blue shades and picks well for floral work. In autumn fiery tones of burgundy and scarlet prior to leaf fall. Sun or part shade. Deciduous.

It is common practice to prune Cotinus quite hard in winter which will encourage a tidy growth habit and renewed growth that produces a better foliage display. Not absolutely necessary though.

Gardenias are gross feeders - meaning that like me they like lots of tucker. Regular liquid feeding will keep them healthy and happy or side dress with slow release fertilizer.

A delicious and delectable Gardenia with large glossy green foliage and large fully double flowers which appear from spring to summer. The flowers are creamy white and carry a heady scent. Happiest in morning sun or part shade in rich acid soil. Protect from harsh frost. Evergreen.

Remember that Gardenias are gross feeders and respond well to regular liquid feeding.

An evergreen shrub with attractive grey green foliage and shaggy scarlet flowers from October right through to summer. The flowers are very attractive to birds. Will grow in just about any soil, tolerates coastal conditions, but needs protection from frost. Evergreen.

A delightful little Holly that is ideal for hedging and topiary work. Small glossy green leaves and a neat and tidy habit. This female clone has little black berries that follow the insignificant flowers. A worthy substitute for Box. Happy in a sunny position in nice deep soil. Hardy.

The male form of this little shrub is usually planted for one reason - to pollinate the female form so she will produce berries. On its own it forms a wide-spreading compact mound with dark green leathery leaves that have a pale under-side. Small creamy white flowers in spring. Evergreen.

For harmony in the garden it is usually recommended that one male Viburnum davidii be planted for every 3 females - not something we suggest you try at home folks.
