Medium sized fruit with white crisp juicy flesh. Sweet flavour. Autumn harvest when the fruit has reached full colour and size. The pips should rattle and are black in colour. Also can be cooked; are easy to core, slow to oxidise, holds skin colour and has good flesh texture.

Tea. An outstanding Rose with open flat flowers that have a multitude of petals. The blooms are a pleasing blend of pink, copper and soft orange. The foliage is dark and glossy and the stems have few thorns. A delightful fragrance and generosity of bloom complete the picture. France 1872.

This rose is sometimes confused with Monsieur Tillier and vice versa as they are very similar in appearance however they are definitely different. Archiduc Joseph was named after a great plant collector - Archduke Joseph of Austro-Hungary.

Rambler Climber. Bonfire is a medium red rambling climbing rose which can grow up to 5m in height. It has small double blooms displayed in large clusters and is a once flowering variety. This is a heritage variety which has good disease resistence.

A robust and easy to grow evergreen shrub with stiff green foliage. Masses of crimson 'bottle-brushes' appear at the end of each branch from spring through to autumn. Loved by the birds and the bees. Likes a warm position with protection from harsh frost but generally undemanding.

aka Bottlebrush

Bottle Brush. A spreading low growing form of this popular Australian shrub. During the summer it smothers itself with bright red 'bottle brush' flowers that are tinged with gold. Loves hot dry areas and happy on the coast. Quite drought tolerant once established. Evergreen.

Members of the Callistemon family or 'Bottle Brush' as they are commonly known do not like too much fertilizer. The safest way to give them some nutrients is with a slow release product but remember in this case 'less is more'.

Japonica. Here's something a bit different - a Camellia with twisted, undulating stems and leaves. The leaves which are a glossy dark green are complemented by large semi-double red blooms in spring. Something of interest all year round. Happiest in acid soil and dappled light.

Hybrid. A free flowering Camellia with medium sized, fully double and anemone blooms of a clear rosy-pink. A strong vigorous upright growth habit. Quite stunning in full bloom. Happiest semi-shade and acid soil. Bred by Les Jury of NZ.

Hybrid. For those of you who like formal blooms then this Camellia is one of the best. The warm pink formal, double blooms appear from around July through to September. Has a columnar growth habit. Plant in semi-shade in acid soil for best results.

This Camellia was bred and named for Australian scholar, linguist, garden designer and camellia expert the late Eben Gowrie Waterhouse who amongst many achievements in his life was a long standing and enthusiastic member of the International Camellia Society.

Native. Named for where it grows naturally - the Poor Knights Islands - this Coprosma is valued for the beautiful glossy green and evergreen foliage. Its growth habit is low and wide so it makes a good filler for banks etc. Likes the sun and can tolerate dry coastal conditions but not frost.

aka Karamu

Native. Commonly known as Karamu this evergreen native shrub has small dark green leaves with pale under-sides. Insignificant pale green flowers are followed by small orange berries that birds love. Easy to grow in sun or part shade with protection from harsh frost. Trim regularly to keep tidy.

Early Maori used Karamu as a food source and of course native birds love the berries. Believe it or not Coprosma are in the same family as the coffee plant but we wouldn't recommend substituting Karamu for your favourite brew!

Native. A most handsome and striking form of our native 'Cabbage Tree'. The green swords of foliage are heavily banded with rich cream blushed with just a little pink. Looks magnificent in a container or group planted for extra impact. Tolerates sun or part shade. Evergreen.

This Cordyline is very popular in Britain and has been awarded a Certificate of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Delicious shiny black round, juicy currants are a very rich source of vitamin C. They are relatively easy to grow and form attractive shrubs in the home landscape. This variety has been bred to produce big fat berries. Excellent in jams, jellies, juices and pies and they freeze easily. Self-fertile but improve harvest with a pollinator. Deciduous.

Red currants are a great source of vitamin C. They are easy to grow and form attractive shrubs in the home landscape. The fruit can be picked fresh (if you beat the birds) or used for jams, jellies, juices and pies. Freezes well. Ripe around December-January. Deciduous.

Prune the main shoots of your Red Currant back by about 1/2 in winter to encourage new fruiting laterals. Remember that Red Currants mainly fruit on older wood.

This NZ native conifer can reach over 60m when fully mature but that takes quite some time; our height is for 10 year's growth. Juvenile trees have fine drooping bronze 'needles' which eventually change to a green, more a flattened leaf. Produces berries which are loved by birds. Evergreen.
