Austin Rose. A gorgeous shrub rose with deeply cupped, very fruity fragrant blooms in shades of warm apricot and pink that repeat all season. It can be trained as a small climber.

Just in case you have ever wondered, this rose is named after Abraham Darby who was an English Pioneer of the Industrial Revolution.

This maple is a delicate, unique small tree. Butterfly has deeply divided, grey-green leaves with creamy margins that are often tinged pink in the spring and scarlet in the fall. It looks lovely from afar but, to see its true splendour, one should look up close. Deciduous.

aka Weeping Maple

A graceful weeping Maple with gently arching branches. The foliage is finely dissected and dark maroon purple. Looks stunning in a container but equally would make an outstanding feature in the garden. Happiest in morning sun or semi-shade with protection from strong winds. Deciduous.

This is a Maple I personally rate for its sheer grace and form. I have grown it for years in several gardens (always in a container) and it never fails to please.

aka Japanese Maple Weeping

A very attractive weeping Maple that forms a broad head of cascading foliage. The leaves are deeply dissected and coloured a delicious dark purple-red. Happy in a special container or the garden in a sheltered, semi-shaded position. Deciduous. Est.10yr.growth.

This Maple is on my 'must have' list and I have successfully grown it in a container for several years. An ancient and revered cultivar originating from Japan and equally of merit today.

aka Asparagus Pacific Challenger

Bred in NZ Pacific Challenger produces an all green spear. Early to mid season variety. Easy to grow but they do need a dedicated sunny spot with good drainage to mature and multiply. Plant crowns in trenches that have been back filled with mulch or compost. Perennial.

This is a high yielding variety that produces a early to mid season crop. Bred in NZ to thrive in our climate, Pacific Endeavour produces mid to large spears that are green with a slight purple blush at the base. Plant at a depth of 10-15 cm. Deciduous.

Sasanqua. This cheerful little Camellia just smothers itself in bright red single flowers from winter through to spring. The flowers are offset with prominent gold stamens. Slow growing with a compact habit. Ideal for containers, hedging or brightening up a dull corner of the garden. Evergreen.

Californian Lilac. Once Joyce gets settled in the garden she will spread herself around a bit as she grows wider than she is tall. Great plant for hot dry banks. Masses of bright blue blooms spring-summer. Likes the sun and good drainage and protection from harsh frost. Evergreen.

Ceanothus fix nitrogen from the atmosphere so require no fertiliser.

Gypsum improves soil quality to achieve healthy, vibrant gardens and lawns. Breaks up clay, loosens hard and compacted soil. Improves soil drainage and enables penetration of air, water and nutrients to plant roots. Gypsum also adds calcium to the soil which is great for avocado's as they are acid soil lovers and therefore no lime can be used.

Paniculata Hydrangea. Candlelight is an upright, hardy, stylish, deciduous shrub with creamy white blooms on deep red stems. As the blooms mature the petals get a light blush of pale pink. Its sturdy dark red twigs are held upright and don’t droop. Autumn foliage is equally impressive.

Floribunda Std. This NZ bred, multi award winning rose flowers continuously throughout the summer. The large clusters of blooms are beautiful, very double and shaded a soft rose pink. Nice light perfume. An outstanding and deservedly popular rose. 1984.

Sam McGredy named this rose after his friend the late Rex Hotchin who was not at all like a pretty pink floribunda but a good friend worthy of naming a beautiful rose after.
