Horseradish needs little or no attention in order to thrive. To keep the plant from looking ratty, however, water it once a week during dry spells and use a couple of inches of mulch around the plant to help conserve moisture. As Bouganvillea come from South America warmth is more important to the plant than lots of fertilizer. Choose a spot where the soil is well drained and therefore does not get too cold and claggy in winter.

Sasanqua. This is a really good looking Camellia with fine narrow dark green foliage that looks good all year round. In very early autumn the bush is covered in tight buds that open to pretty semi-double flowers are white blushed with rose pink edges. Tolerates sun or shade. Evergreen. PVR CML013.

Gardenias will grow happily in a pot as long as they are fed and watered regularly. They are gross feeders and respond well to regular liquid feeding. They can take a little sun but in NZ they are best protected from the hot afternoon sun.

This is slow growing and forms a very large bulb. Individual corms have a mild sweet taste (especially when roasted) and are less intense than regular Garlic. Plant in Jun, harvest Dec. Plant no deeper than 2 cloves depth. Feed well balanced NPK fertiliser.

Garlic loves a sunny, well drained spot in fertile soil. Once harvested, around Christmas time, leave to dry in a warm, sunny spot until the leaves wrinkle and turn brownish. Then take the leaves off and store your bulbs whole in a cool airy place until required. NB Elephant Garlic does not store for as long as regular Garlic but once you get the taste of it that shouldn't be a problem. This is a hard necked variety.

The Goji Berry is an ancient medicinal and culinary plant from Asia that is highly valued for its therapeutic qualities. Green foliage, purple and white flowers in summer followed by nutrient packed red berries. Grows best in a sunny well drained position. Self-pollinating, hardy and deciduous.

The Goji Berry will eventually form a strong trunk a bit like a grape-vine. The somewhat trailing branches can be trained as required. Fruiting should occur after the 2nd year with full production around year 5. Quite drought tolerant once established. This so called 'Superfood' is certainly worth a try.

If you want to quickly establish a nice compact low hedge then this is the plant for you. Lonicera needs a little more clipping than Box but it is very easy to maintain. When used for hedging or topiary then the flowers and fruit will be non existent.

Grandiflora. This tree is definitely in my top 10! Always looks good, tolerates just about any conditions. Glossy green leaves accented with a bronze under felt, large creamy white blooms that are softly fragrant. Wonderful as a single specimen or as an avenue planting. Evergreen.

This Mandarin is very popular in Queensland where it was discovered as a chance seedling in 1888. The virtually thorn-less tree produces large fruit with a thin easy peel skin. Ripens around July. If left on the tree you will notice the skin gets 'puffy'. Evergreen.

As with all Citrus make sure you cut the fruit off the tree rather than just pull. Your Mandarin will grow well in a warm, well drained fertile spot in the garden with protection from harsh frost. Also suitable for container growing with regular feeding and watering. Citrus Information Pages
