This is slow growing and forms a very large bulb. Individual corms have a mild sweet taste (especially when roasted) and are less intense than regular Garlic. Plant in June and harvest Dec. Plant no deeper than 2 cloves depth. Feed well balanced NPK fertiliser and water regularly.

Garlic loves a sunny, well drained spot in fertile soil. Once harvested, around Christmas time, leave to dry in a warm, sunny spot until the leaves wrinkle and turn brownish. Then take the leaves off and store your bulbs whole in a cool airy place until required. NB Elephant Garlic does not store for as long as regular Garlic but once you get the taste of it that shouldn't be a problem. This is a hard necked variety.

Once you have dug your Garlic up around Christmas time (6 months after planting). Leave to dry in a warm dry spot until the leaves die down. Delightful little native Hebe that is a good "doer". Small close-set leaves that are dark green above and paler beneath. The pale lavender flowers smother the bush from mid to late spring and gradually fade to white as they mature. Prefers a sunny well drained position. Evergreen.

A very attractive and hardy little Hebe that looks good all year round. The glossy green summer leaves have strong purple tones in the cooler months. The racemes of bloom appear in autumn and these have tones of dark mauve-pink. Easy to grow in well drained soil. Evergreen.

A top performing Hebe that is quite a show off in the height of summer. That's when the purple flower heads smother the bush, these flowers fade to white as they age. Nice fresh green foliage that trims well, this is best done after flowering. Plant in a sunny well drained position. Evergreen.

This little Hebe hybrid is well named as it is indeed delightful. Fresh green narrow foliage and pretty sprays of white flowers from spring to summer. Sometimes the blooms have just a hint of soft lilac. Always looks neat and tidy. Happy in a sunny well drained position. Evergreen.

Prune your Hebe 'Otari Delight' lightly after flowering to encourage new growth. This Hebe was found as a seedling in Otari-Wilton's Bush in Wellington hence the name.

Native. This little mountain Hebe has a somewhat prostrate spreading habit and is an ideal rockery plant. The little leaves are rounded and grey green. White flower spikes appear from spring through to autumn. Needs a sunny spot and well drained to dry soil. Quite hardy. Evergreen.

A lovely neat and tidy Hebe that always looks like it has just been clipped hence the common name of Topiarist's Hebe. The dainty grey-green leaves on short stems form a rounded compact mound. Use in groups or as an ideal contrast plant. Likes the sun and well drained soil. Hardy and evergreen.

Hebe Topiaria will occasionally flower in summer with little white flowers that are rather inconspicuous. Its value is as a foliage shrub and is highly enough thought of to have received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Blue Oat Grass. Highly desirable perennial 'grass' that has arching, blue-grey, needles of foliage that form a robust clump. Panicles of cream 'oat' like flowers appear in summer. Hardy and easy to grow as long as your soil is well drained. Looks great as an edging or mass planted. Evergreen.

Though this is generally a neat and tidy 'grass' it can be sheared back to encourage new growth if it starts to look a bit scruffy. This is usually done in late winter - just before spring.

Mophead. One of our favourite Hydrangeas. Gorgeous large white flower heads that open from soft lime green buds. Lovely to pick. Best planted in dappled light in soil that does not completely dry out in summer. Deciduous.

A delightful little Holly that is ideal for hedging and topiary work. Small glossy green leaves and a neat and tidy habit. This female clone has little black berries that follow the insignificant flowers. A worthy substitute for Box. Happy in a sunny position in nice deep soil. Hardy.

An unusual and desirable form of the hardy and ever reliable Holly. Very dark green leaves - can be used for hedging, topiary or as a background plant. Naturally upright and bushy, tolerant of frost, wind and coastal conditions, making this an easy-to-grow and maintain plant. Happiest in a sunny open spot.

Fabulous form and foliage make this Holly a useful and desirable plant. Growing naturally upright and columnar it looks great in containers or used as an accent point. Happy in sun or part shade. Small white flowers followed by black berries but these are fairly inconspicuous. Evergreen.

This is also a useful plant where a narrow screen or hedge is required, it will do the job without dominating or becoming a constant trimming problem.

aka Jacaranda

This specimen tree from Brazil is a visual delight when in full flower. In late spring-summer masses of mauve-blue tubular flowers smother the tree followed by decorative seed pods. The ferny green foliage is semi-evergreen when temperatures are cool. Protect from frost.

Jacarandas like a warm sheltered position and well drained soil. In their native Brazil they are considered a tropical evergreen and in NZ they grow really well in warmer parts of the country like the Bay of Plenty. They can be grown in cooler areas if protected from frost whilst young.

Citrus. Oval Kumquat. A popular variety with bright orange, oval fruit with thin peel that is sweet and tasty but with enough zing to be noticeable. The flesh has few seeds and is quite acid. Will produce large crops if planted in a sunny, well drained fertile spot. Evergreen.

aka Large Round Kumquat

Round Kumquat. A hybrid variety with thick, rigid, dark green foliage and fragrant, white flowers in spring. The rounded fruit are good quality with a balance of sweet and acidic taste - the peel is sweet, the flesh has a sharp taste - the whole fruit can be eaten. Ripens March-April. Evergreen.

Plant in a sunny, well drained spot in fertile soil. Best protected from harsh frost when young. Happy growing in a container as long as you remember to feed and water regularly. Harvest when fully ripe. The fruit hold well on the plant and are highly ornamental. Citrus Information Pages

Citrus. NZ's most popular lemon and deservedly so. Very juicy and a really good cropper. Once established the tree will seldom be without a lemon. More tolerant of cold than many other lemons. Can you feel a Gin and Tonic coming on? Happiest in a sunny well drained position. Evergreen.

Citrus. Thought to be a hybrid of the sour mandarin and the Ichang lemon, yuzu is a golf ball–sized fruit with a thick bumpy rind that ranges from green to vibrant yellow depending on ripeness. Origins in China. Sought after for it's unique sour, tart flavour of its' zest
