aka Golden Totara

Native. A handsome specimen tree for sun or part shade. The stiff narrow leaves are a beautiful golden shade and complement the reddish brown bark. Slow growing, hardy and tolerant of all conditions except wet 'feet'. Height given is 10 year estimate. Evergreen.

Totara were a valuable timer source in early NZ. Maori also used large specimens to craft their war canoes. The peeling bark was used for roofing material and for fashioning food baskets.

Native. Dainty deep green leaves that quickly form a low mat of tight foliage. In spring and summer myriads of starry shaped white flowers dance above the foliage, followed by fleshy red berries. Plant in sun or part shade in well drained soil that does not completely dry out in summer. Evergreen.

Native. A dainty ground-cover with fleshy green leaves and a myriad of white, star shaped blooms with a sweet honey fragrance. Flowers appear from spring to autumn and are followed by little berries. Plant in sun or shade in well drained soil that does not completely dry out in summer. Evergreen.

Commonly called Horopito or Pepperwood. Easy to grow and has striking red blushed, aromatic foliage. Little green fragrant, star flowers appear in spring but these do not compete with the foliage. Plant in sun or semi-shade in nice deep soil for best results. Hardy and evergreen.

Can grow to 1.5m or more after 10 years, depending on growing environment.

Native. This plant has deep red 'leopard' spots dominating the striking gold/green foliage. Very easy to grow and hardy to just about any conditions. A great contrast plant or perhaps a unique low hedge. Evergreen.

aka King Fern or Marattia Salicina

Native. The majestic King Fern is highly palatable to goats, pigs and deer so is sadly not as common in the wild as it once was. It has beautiful dark green fronds which can reach 3.5 – 4m in length. The King Fern needs shade, frost protection and constant moisture to look its best. Protect from frost when young. Evergreen.
