This is a group of bulbous or tuberous plants of many species. The gorgeous Calla Lily has been hybridised to create a fabulous array of brightly coloured inflorescences and are really worth finding a spot for. They are perennials that go underground for the winter and reapear in the spring, sending forth their large speckled leaves prior to flowering.
The Lily hybrids known as Asiatic Lilies are also available in a mind boggling array of colours. The bulbs propagate themselves and after a couple of years you will find that the single bulb you once planted has multiplied and you now have a veritable clump of gorgeous blooms that reapear each year.
Be sure to mark the spot where they reside before they disapear underground each year so that you don’t go and run your spade through them in your desire to ‘fill the gap’ in the winter months.
Dwarf Peruvian Lily. Bred for its compact habit and long flowering period - spring to autumn - this little perennial is definitely a top performer. Large blooms in tones of apricot and peach that would look great combined with terracotta. Plant in sun or semi-shade in well drained soil. Perennial.

Peruvian Lily - Inticancha series. Maya offers soft pink and white blooms in such profusion they smother the attractive green foliage. Great for cutting and happy in borders and containers. Prefers well drained soil in a partly shaded, sheltered site. Hardy perennial.
Dead head by pulling the flowers stems gently from the bottom of the plant, the resulting ‘wound’ then initiates new flowers.

The deepest, darkest, wine coloured blooms of this deliciously, decadent lily appear from early summer. The flowers are upward facing and decorate the strong stems. I consider this Lily a must have. Plant in a sunny well drained spot. Deciduous.
'Black Out' can also be grown in a container and will tolerate 1/2 day sun. Will quickly multiply to create more flowering stems each year.

Christmas Lily. Glossy green foliage and stems of exquisite, pure white, trumpet blooms with the most exotic of perfumes. Usually in full bloom just around Christmas hence the name. Full sun to part of shade. Deciduous.
Grow your Christmas Lilies in a container or the garden. As I write my 'Snow Queen' are standing tall with at least 6 buds on each stem, 1 stem when open will be enough to perfume the whole house. A pot of these in bud or flower is the perfect gift for a special gardening friend.
