Rugosa. This strongly scented rose has beautiful semi-double, velvety wine-red flowers with a hint of purple. It is constantly in bloom over a long period. One of the best loved Rugosas with good reason. Nice dark green foliage which colours well in the autumn. Very hardy and tolerant. 1901.

The strongly scented flowers are followed by giant tomato-shaped hips. Hips are suitable for refreshing Rose Hip Tea.

Rugosa - Species. Glossy deep green foliage and enormous (10cm) flowers of pure white that are single and richly scented. A circle of golden stamens highlights the blooms which repeat well from Spring-Autumn. Lovely Autumn foliage colour and red hips. Introduced to England in 1870.

This is hardy Rugosa tolerates poor and sandy soil, coastal salt spray, wind, and copes well in little shade. Originally found in areas of Russia, China and Japan. Hips are used for jam, jelly and tea.

Rugosa Hybrid. A very pretty little rose that is AKA 'Yellow Dagmar Hastrup'. The blooms are loosely cupped with curved petals in a delicate primrose yellow shade. Attractive prominent deep yellow stamens and a strong fruity fragrance. Generally robust and healthy and repeats well. 1987 PVR.

aka Scabrosa

Rugosa. The name 'Scabrosa' refers to the roughness of the handsome foliage which is clear green with interesting veining. The summer blooms are bright cerise pink offset with golden stamens and are followed by big fat red hips. Nice sweet fragrance. Robust and vigorous. 1950.

This rose could be used as a hedge as it grows into quite a tall specimen. The hips can be used for culinary purposes.
