Sitka or Alaska Spruce. A slow growing elegant Conifer that always has a well groomed appearance. Sharp pointed, grey-green needles decorate ascending branches that have graceful pendulous tips. Makes a wonderful potted Christmas tree. Can be grown in sun or part shade, prefers deep cool soil. Hardy. Evergreen.

aka Pinenut or Roman Pine

Cultivated for over 6,000 years for delicious edible pine 'nuts'. The first cones which hold about 50 'nuts' will appear in approx. 6-10yrs. In the meantime you have a tree with a nice thick trunk topped off with a spreading umbrella of grey/green needles. Makes a great potted Xmas tree. Evergreen.

aka Buddhist Pine or Yew Pine

From the mountains of Japan and China comes this unusual, cold tolerant conifer. The leaves are long, thick and dark green and the growth is slow and upright. Popular in Japanese temple gardens. Responds well to trimming and is often used for hedges or bonsai. Tough, hardy and evergreen.

aka Golden Totara

Native. A handsome specimen tree for sun or part shade. The stiff narrow leaves are a beautiful golden shade and complement the reddish brown bark. Slow growing, hardy and tolerant of all conditions except wet 'feet'. Height given is 10 year estimate. Evergreen.

Totara were a valuable timer source in early NZ. Maori also used large specimens to craft their war canoes. The peeling bark was used for roofing material and for fashioning food baskets.

aka Japanese Umbrella Pine

Slow growing when young. Treat as a dwarf for the first 10 years. It then grows faster. Great for all gardens as when it gets older it is quite narrow for its height. It makes a fine tub plant as it is able to withstand long periods of dry conditions.

Large, bushy, upright evergreen shrub, columnar when young. As the plant ages it becomes broader, with erect shoots bearing radially arranged, dark green leaves.

A slow growing, neat and tidy little conifer that grows naturally into an upright oval. The sprays of flat foliage are a soft yellow shade in spring-summer turning to a rich green in autumn-winter. Highly ornamental. Plant in sun or part shade in deep soil, protect from strong wind. Evergreen.

This statement conifer has an upright compact columnar form. The fresh green branches have flattened leaves and are a deep green year round. This variety is resistent to diseases and easy to grow in any sunny well drained situation.

Thuja orientalis Rosedalis is a colourful, dwarf, oval bush with soft evergreen foliage. It is creamy-yellow in the spring, turning to a sea-green in the summer and finally becoming a reddish-purple colour in the winter. An ideal conifer for planting in shrub borders and as informal hedging.
