Feijoas & Standard Roses

Its Saturday morn and this email was supposed to be out mid week, but I guess it's like all of us, in that, it's been a busy week. I have been out of the nursery doing a couple of planting jobs for Anthony, the garden designer who is associated with the Nursery. I write this listening to the rain thinking, how perfect, as those gardens will be naturally watered in, not to mention that this will now make for the ‘bestest' autumn plantings.
Following on from last weeks email, I have to say that I was overwhelmed with the number of responses to our friend Jane's plight and all the other things people are doing. In addition to the offers of people opening up their homes I had this email.
"Yes you are right Your heart does go out to all in Chch I am in Village Gardens and at our monthly dinner we have raffles This month we gave to the earthquake fund and then had a quick collection for all residents. The response has been great, total has not been calculated yet but will be in the $700 bracket. Proof that NZers pull together when the chips are down"
I checked this time with Fastways and our parcel of home grown goodies made it down to our friends in Christchurch.
While I have been out working with Anthony, Harry has been having a clean up and pulled out of the ranks a good few standard roses, actually over 300. These are all good looking specimens but last years stock that we no longer want to carry and he has marked them down from $39.99 to only $15.00 or $25.00. These are not linked to the web, so its first in first served. Come out and browse or email us directly for mail order.

Feijoas
I know that Feijoa time is looming and I am already looking forward to those Feijoa muffins and cakes that dad makes for us. Feijoas would have to be one of the easiest fruits to grow and to that end got a bulk deal. Apollo, Geminii, Mammoth and Unique are all great fruiting varieties that are normally $18.99 available now at $14.50 each. Feijoas are awesome as small trees or plant a row to create a fruiting hedge. We planted a whole row and now have more Feijoas than we need.
Pears
I conned dad into making a couple of dessert recipes for me using pears. Mmmm both of them were yum so will include them in next weeks email
