Flowers are all about sex!!
Hi
Autumn projects

Have you noticed that all the autumn flowering plants have started to do their thing, well all said and done; flowering is all about sex. The species Camellias are amongst my fav plants and have started flowering with their beautiful simplistic flowers. Even some of the early sasanquas have opened up their flowers with their delicate fragrance. The winter roses (Helleborus) have started to push out with their new season's leaves. Next it will be their flowers. They will look so much better if you remove last years leaves before too many of their new leaves come through. While you are at it, get in there and do a whole heap of general tidy up jobs. Perennials and annuals that have finished can be cut back, old spent foliage removed. I call it putting the garden to bed but don't be tempted to touch those roses. I must confess though, to a vase of hips in the shop! We have weeded and mulched and planted annuals (Iceland poppies, calendulas and even a pansy or three) to give us some winter colour.
How did we get the Lemonade
I was looking for a lemon tree the other day and saw that we had these awesome looking Lemonade plants all laden with fruit. Not ripe yet lol but certainly will give great colour in the garden not to mention eating. Now I knew that a Meyer lemon wasn't a true lemon but rather some hanky panky between a lemon and an orange resulting in what we now call a Meyer Lemon discovered by a Mr Frank Meyer. I have never known whether you say Meyer or Meier, but the Lemonade is a sport of the Meyer, Now what's a sport?, well nothing naughty but rather one original Meyer lemons that grew a different branch with different fruit for some reason or other. Someone must have discovered this decided it was delicious and reproduced it without any, well sexual activity going on. The fruit is refreshing and delicious and great for eating and juicing and I'm sure good for you. Now whilst on about lemons we have also some damn fine plants of the Meyer and they are on a deal, normally $19.99 now just $14.00 each. We have managed to find some rather cool Meyer lemon standards as well and I havent seen these for some time either.

Moving right along to other fruity plants there are also some really nice NZ Cranberrys or to those that want to know Myrtus ugni. Now these are not the cranberries that you get dried and in the packets from the supermarket ( we have those as well) but rather a very delicious berry that really is quite tasty. In line with our April sale these are normally $16.99 now $11.00. I just have to mention that these cranberrys come as standards as well, ideal for that potager!
New Experience
Harry and Tony had a new experience this week. They were judges at the local Gordonton school Giant pumpkin night . They had to judge various takes on different vegetable. The winner was a pumpkin made into a fairy house. they had even carved furniture to sit inside the house. Another was penguins made from Aubergines and I m sure that there were many other very cool creations. The standard was very high and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
