Hmmmm Lime Sulphur !

Hi

Who Farted???
It smells like Rotorua here at the nursery and that's being polite, we have been out there giving our remaining roses a good dose of old fashioned Lime Sulphur. For me, it's the start of putting them to bed for the winter. Fantastic stuff to help the roses lose their leaves and really knocks that white scale for a six, not too mention cleaning up any fungal spores that may think that they are going to last the winter out, here at our nursery. I'm pretty liberal with the smelly stuff, spraying the paths and the matting and anything else in my way. You do have to be careful though as it can burn the leaves on evergreen plants and it can stain things that you may not want to be a sulphur yellow colour.  There is still plenty of time to spray your roses with such stuff but aim for the end of the month to make a start. If you not keen on a sulphur smell lingering around your home then stick to Copper oxychloride and Conqueror Oil and do a few of them, remember to let 2 weeks lapse between lime sulphur and  copper oxy spray if you do both. I usually aim to prune once we have frosts happening so that its too cold for the roses to regrow. Some leave it to as late as late July early August but dont do it now as the roses will just try to flower again.

Back to hedging
There are so many cool plants that you can use for a hedge. Griselinia with its limey green wavy leaf is quite a popular one. I adore Camellias with their classic dark green leaves and the bonus of pretty flowers.  Now, not so well known are the Corokias and these are just awesome for medium to taller hedges. Now just to hedge (name) drop, but the beehive in Wellington is surrounded by a very tidy Corokia hedge. Now Corokias are quite tough and hardy and well suited to most spots. They will make a very dense and quite solid hedge and respond well to that motorised hedge trimmer. Grey green probably describes their colour though there are varieties that go warm bronzy brown tones like Frosted Chocolate and Bronze King. LOL the names are a dead giveaway!!. Now the bargain hunter that Harry is, he just couldn't go past these to add to our autumn celebration sale.  Corokia Baby Prince, Bronze King, Cheesemanii, Cotoneaster, Mangatangi and the new one out, Tutti Frutti.  These plants are amazing large chunky and very bushy, almost an instant hedge. Plant from 70cm to 100cm

Just to spice the sales area up for another week are these Gazanias, excellent groundcover like plants suited for those hot sunny areas and hot sunny colours as well. These are the latest special ones that seem to have that extra large and lush flowers at a really hot price. Normally $14.99 now just 6.99  Choose from Krakatoa, Sahara, Vesuvius and that really cool one Takatu Red

Mums Day
Gerbera Lisa       Gerbera Orangina      Gerbera Piroska      Gerbera Sylvana

I never know where the year goes but mothers day is looming fast and Mums are always pretty special. Gerberas have always been a favourite flower of mine and I used to buy the fancy ones from the florist for my mum. These are new outdoor Gerberas go on and on flowering especially if you keep removing the spent flowers and foliage. We planted a whole heap of white ones in the garden and they have been amazing, but I must confess I haven't been that good at the flower removal thing. Get one sent for mothers day!

Daffodils
Last year we had banana boxes of Daffodils and we have very limited numbers of them again this year. Its definitely first in first served. Daffodils Mixed only $80.00 per box
