Shortest Day Looming
Hi
Plant your Garlic with Clothes on!!!!

If you have a hankering to wander around nearly naked or maybe with a large dark overcoat on (suddenly got a bit cold at night). It will be because its nearly a full moon and the Winter solstice is nigh and you need to plant your garlic. Good excuse anyways. The shortest day will be June the 21st and the longest night will be of course starting on the 21st to the morn of the 22nd, which means that we are heading for summer. I always think that we get the coolest weather after the shortest day but we can't complain as its been beautiful and warm. Now if you need an excuse to go out at midnight LOL and want some garlic, we do have some more available. There is also a new batch in of Elephant garlic with those super large cloves. Elephant garlic also looks really pretty in flower and suits a place in a perennial border
Rose Stuff
I hope that you have all sprayed your roses with lime sulphur or even copper oxychloride and Conqueror oil but remember that lime sulphur is incompatible with the copper and needs a couple weeks need to elapse between them. Do all your pip and stone fruit trees at the same time as it will help clean up any lurking bugs and fungus.
Its still way too warm to prune your roses and or fruit trees and you still have plenty of time. Wait till we get some frosts and a period of cold weather which will probably be July.
Nursery News
It's been another full on week here at the nursery and have nearly got all the roses (well to the letter L) in alphabetical order. It just makes it so much easier to find them when they are all in order.
Trees have been next on our list to pot. I love it as it feels like Christmas with all the new seasons exciting plants coming in. Fruit trees have started to arrive but we should nearly have a full compliment after next weekend.
The other day we potted these cute dwarf peach and nectarines. These will grow like standards and be ideal as a feature plant in a potager or even be suitable for a large pot. While on the subject of small we have a selection of apples on really dwarfing rootstock and I think that Teresa has even found us more
New in this week
Hellebores fancy Doubles. These are some pics that I took of the double flowers. There are also selected flower forms of smaller grade plants that are not in bloom.

Ilam Azaleas. These are seriously cool flowers ranging from some very vivid shades. They love dappled light and grow into medium sized shrubs. We have these small but good plants at only $9.99 each
Ericas Springwood White, Kramers Red and Cassia John Bull all good buying and normally $19.99 now just $7.99. Cassia normally $16.99 now just $9.99 each

Hebes Still really good varieties at only 7.99each
Raspberries get 6 plants for $21.99 Choose from Nootka, Heritage, Skeena and Willamette
Gooseberries and black and red currants only $9.99 each
Gerberas we have a lovely batch of these in at the moment. They are the latest cultivars that will tolerate the winter. Endlessly in flower and reduced at the moment from $14.99 to $9.99
Don t catch a chill if you do have some strange planting practices, Its meant to be a wet one but what ever your plans have fun
Have a great weekend
Cheers, Lloyd and Harry
