Climber. An excellent climber with large, lightly scented, double flowers of soft golden yellow set against healthy, glossy, foliage. Top performing yellow climbers are few and far between, and this is one of the best. 2002.

Those that took part in the NZ Rose Review 2010 rate this climber highly. It performed well in BOP, Waikato and Canterbury.

aka Kanuka

Fast growing evergreen shrub or small erect tree. Bright green leaves which release volatile oils when crushed. Similar to Manuka but leaves are soft and flowers and seeds are smaller than Manuka. Attractive branching pattern and profuse flowering in summer.

Austin. Large, fullly cupped rosettes with outer petals that re-curve back slightly. Shaded a rich deep pink with a deliciously, fruity, fragrance with a hint of raspberry. Named for the late Baroness Strange who lived in Megginch Castle, Scotland. A good woman and a good rose. 2006.

Austin. Robust and hardy with full double blooms that appear continuously throughout the season. The buds are a rich orange-red and open to reveal loosely arranged blooms in salmon with a golden yellow reverse on the petals. Nice fragrance and good disease resistance.

Named after the poem/song (Do you remember learning this at school?) The Lady of Shalott written by Alfred Lord Tenneyson. On either side the river lie Long fields of barley and of rye..............

Hybrid Tea. Put the power of love into your garden with this drop dead gorgeous rose. The dusky red buds open to showy dark blooms in tones of magenta red. The fragrance is powerful and alluring. Disease resistant glossy foliage. Should definitely be on the must have list.

aka Spanish Lavender

One of the most popular Lavenders sold in NZ and there's a good reason for that. The plump purple flower heads appear in abundance from early spring through to late summer. It performs well, looks good and clips well. Happiest in a sunny well drained spot. Evergreen.

Use for low hedges, container planting, topiary work or just plant amongst your other treasures in the mixed border. A great little Mediterranean lavender that seldom disappoints.

A stunning snow-white Lavender that has masses of snow-white flowers from late Winter through Summer. Its compact grey green foliage is aromatic and looks attractive all year round. Citrus. This is a thornless lemon when mature. It originates in Italy, has large juicy sour fruit which ripen from July to December. The fruit is medium sized with greenish-yellow flesh that is almost seedless. Plant in a sunny well drained spot. Evergreen.

Citrus. This lemon comes from Australia where it was grown from seed sent from Portugal way back when. One for the lemon connoisseur, deliciously juicy, fragrant fruit with a thick skin. Very productive and vigorous with good cold tolerance though it prefers a warm sheltered spot. Evergreen.

Citrus. NZ's most popular lemon and deservedly so. Very juicy and a really good cropper. Once established the tree will seldom be without a lemon. More tolerant of cold than many other lemons. Can you feel a Gin and Tonic coming on? Happiest in a sunny well drained position. Evergreen.

Native. Manuka AKA Tea Tree. Exquisite double flowers that start appearing in late winter and continue through to the spring. The flowers are in tones of burgundy-red and are complemented by the dainty deep bronze aromatic foliage. Happy in the sun. Evergreen.

Native. Call it Tea Tree or call it Manuka or even by its botanical name of Leptospermum this ubiquitous native tree is a familar site in our landscape. The scented white flowers that appear in summer attract bees that produce delicious honey. Will grow almost anywhere. Evergreen.

These giant silver proteas are beautiful trees with light-reflecting, silky, silver leaves. An erect ornamental tree, with a stout trunk and thick grey bark. They are at their most silver in hot, dry weather, when the hairs on the leaves lie flat to protect the leaves from drying out.

This easy to grow evergreen shrub is very well named. The green foliage is tipped with red new growth and the bracts are a fiery red with touches of cream. Always looks good, lovely to pick for those of you who like to do so. Loves the sun and good drainage but not harsh frost. Evergreen.

This little Iris has to be one of my favourite NZ natives as it has such dainty white "butterfly" flowers. The narrow sword like leaves form a strong clump, the flowers appear in summer followed by ornamental seed pods. Easy to grow in average soil in a sunny position. Evergreen.

Austin. This angel of a rose has clouds of soft creamy apricot blooms that gently fade to white. A beautiful rose that blooms generously and has a vigorous, disease resistant, informal, growth habit. Named for an artefact recently discovered at Lichfield Cathedral. Mr Austin does it again!

aka Lime Kaffir aka Makrut Lime

Citrus.The essential Lime to use for culinary purposes as all parts of the 'Kaffir' are strongly aromatic especially the unusual 'double' leaves - these are a vital ingredient in Thai and Indonesian cuisine. The fruit are green, rough and 'warty' and not particularly juicy. Evergreen.

The word "Kaffir" is Arabic for infidel or what Muslims used to call unbelievers. How it became associated with a Lime tree I have yet to discover. However in this case it has no relation to its use as a derogatory term in some cultures. Citrus Information Pages

Citrus. Mexican or Key Lime. Flowers and fruits almost continuously if grown in a nice warm sheltered position. The fruit is small and round and yellow when completely ripe. Not so acidic as other limes, the aromatic skin is popular in cooking. Frost Tender, suitable warmer climates Evergreen.

Citrus. A popular Lime for ornamental and culinary purposes. The fragrant white blossom has an attractive pink tinge. Aromatic foliage and fruit that is quite a deep yellow when ripe. The peel is easy to remove. Yellow juicy flesh which has a well balanced mild acidity. Evergreen.

This Lime originated in India but made its way to Hawaii around 1885. It is a common garden plant there and it is also very popular in Trinidad. It is more cold hardy than many Limes but is still best protected from harsh frost. Citrus Information Pages

Tulip Tree. A magnificent specimen tree that is worthy of planting. Strong straight trunk pyramidal form and attractive large, lobed, green and leaves that turn deeper yellow in autumn. In the spring it flowers with unusual tulip shaped green blooms with orange markings. A great paddock tree. Deciduous. Est 10yr.growth.

The Liriodendron is a close relative of the Magnolia and likes the same type of deep acid soil. It is more tolerant of moisture than the Magnolia. A perfect memorial tree to celebrate a birth. Give this tree the space it deserves to reach its full magnificence.

A great little groundcover or edging plant. Grass-like dark green foliage that forms a clump and spreads. Spikes of dainty white flowers appear in summer and autumn followed by black berries. Drought and shade tolerant. Evergreen.

Plum Gorgeous is the deepest and darkest coloured foliage of any Loropetalum, and retains its colour all year round. It’s interesting that this fact is seen as a greater attribute than the hot pink tasseled flowers it has through the spring and summer. Evergreen

A very handsome evergreen specimen tree with dark green glossy leaves that have a brown under-felt. The flowers are magnificent: Cupped, creamy, fragrant and large. They appear in late summer. Easy to grow and quite hardy. Matures to a pyramidal shape, worthy of the space to grow unhindered.

Grandiflora. This tree is definitely in my top 10! Always looks good, tolerates just about any conditions. Glossy green leaves accented with a bronze under felt, large creamy white blooms that are softly fragrant. Wonderful as a single specimen or as an avenue planting.
