aka NZ Alpine celery pine

A slow growing but handsome NZ native, conifer tree with a symmetrically straight tapering trunk and flattened stems acting as leaves. Produces nut like black seeds. Prefers a good soil with adequate moisture and some shelter to get established. Very cold hardy. Makes a stunning specimen. Evergreen.

Good for shrub-lands and forest of sub-alpine climates to sea level.

Sitka or Alaska Spruce. A slow growing elegant Conifer that always has a well groomed appearance. Sharp pointed, grey-green needles decorate ascending branches that have graceful pendulous tips. Cultivated for over 6,000 years for delicious edible pine 'nuts'. The first cones which hold about 50 'nuts' will appear in approx. 6-10yrs. In the meantime you have a tree with a nice thick trunk topped off with a spreading umbrella of grey/green needles. Makes a great potted Xmas tree. Evergreen.
