aka Rhubarb

A tall, vigorous variety with very decorative leaves that are a dense green. Its long stems are bright red in Winter and Summer. Young stems can be eaten raw if its to your liking otherwise stewed and made into crumbles, muffins or pies. Lovely to have in the kitchen garden or large barrel planter.

Remember - Don`t eat the leaves.

A newer variety that has compact growth with highly decorative dense blue-green leaves.Short, thick and juicy stems that are bright ruby redat the base fading to green at the top. Great for jams and crumbles. Plant in the sun in well drained soil. Winter dormant in cool areas.

Remember not to eat the leaves.
Suitable for warmer areas including Auckland/Northland

aka Rhubarb

A vigorous Heritage Rhubarb with healthy, strong upright growth. The stems are broad with quite a bit of green shading on the red stalks. Good flavour and produces well. Plant in humus rich soil that does not completely dry out in summer and feed regularly with organic matter. Perennial.

Wairere Top Tip. Try cooking Rhubarb with 1 sliced apple - it balances out the acid flavour nicely.

Evergreen prostrate ground cover that has very ornamental deeply veined foliage and single white flowers. Sometimes the flowers are followed by red raspberry like fruits. Very vigorous and ideal for covering up difficult spots. Happiest in full sun.

A deciduous shrub with fine foliage. In early Summer, flat flower heads of creamy-white flower begin to emerge followed by small, glossy purple-black berries that are edible after being cooked. May be grown in full sun or partial shade where soils are moist, average condition and free-draining.

Great plant for helping attract birds into your garden.

Elderberry is a valued plant for its medicinal and nutritional qualities. Large deep green leaflets and fragrant white flower heads in summer are followed by red-black berries. These fruit have a high iron content and can be used for juicing or you may like to make some Elderberry Wine. Deciduous.

Sumptuous large golden fruit that are lovely and sweet (not as tart as the red ones) Small Harvest any time from April to September, dependant on regular picking and when you prune. Prefers well drained, sheltered site in full sun. Semi-evergreen.

Your Tamarillo will appreciate a nice layer of mulch around the drip line - take care not to place against the trunk. Tamarillo's are not particularly long-lived so probably best to replace your tree every 3-4 years.
