The male form of this little shrub is usually planted for one reason - to pollinate the female form so she will produce berries. On its own it forms a wide-spreading compact mound with dark green leathery leaves that have a pale under-side. Small creamy white flowers in spring. Evergreen.

For harmony in the garden it is usually recommended that one male Viburnum davidii be planted for every 3 females - not something we suggest you try at home folks.

A great Viburnum for hedging forms a dense screening quickly with less pruning that the common form. This evergreen shrub has lush and attractive olive green foliage and produces white fragrant flowers in spring.

This handsome Viburnum is mainly grown for the large, lush, glossy green foliage which has nice bronze-pink tones on the new growth. Clusters of small fragrant white flowers in spring but they are not the main feature. Needs a warm sheltered position with protection from harsh frost. Evergreen.

If you want to add a tropical look to your garden this fast growing Viburnum is the plant for you. The foliage is just fabulous. A good plant for coastal gardens as like most of us it is very happy at the beach.

aka Japanese Viburnum

This is a top performing shrub for a semi-shaded position. The glossy green foliage always looks good and is complemented by clusters of small white fragrant flowers in spring. These are sometimes followed by scarlet berries. Protect from afternoon sun. Evergreen.

This variety is not self-fertile, so you need two genetically distinct plants in order to get berries.

Add some softness to your spring garden with this delightful deciduous Viburnum. Tiered layers of branches are draped with white, lacy florets in late spring. The fresh green foliage has an oval shape and is attractively serrated. Quite easy to grow and tolerant of most conditions. Deciduous, Hardy.

While Lanarth is monoecious and self-fertile, cross-pollination is recommended for best berry production.

aka Chinese Snowball Tree

Huge rounded trusses of white 'snowball' flowers open from green buds in early summer. The dark leathery summer foliage as red and yellow autumn tones prior to leaf fall. Happy in sun or part shade and hardy to most conditions except hot dry wind. Lovely background shrub. Deciduous.

In milder climates this large shrub is sometimes semi-evergreen i.e. not all the leaves fall in winter. It is sterile and unlikely to produce berries.
