These giant silver proteas are beautiful trees with light-reflecting, silky, silver leaves. An erect ornamental tree, with a stout trunk and thick grey bark. They are at their most silver in hot, dry weather, when the hairs on the leaves lie flat to protect the leaves from drying out.

Avoid fertilisers but will respond well to compost or peat.

Kawaka, New Zealand cedar. Slow growing N.Z native. Handsome, symmetrical, pyramidal tree with bright-green, scale-like leaves. Superb as a neat-growing screen, for breaking up dark greenery, or for lining driveways. Evergreen tree that grows at a moderate rate to reach 3m in 10 years.

A very handsome evergreen specimen tree with dark green glossy leaves that have a brown under-felt. The flowers are magnificent: Cupped, creamy, fragrant and large. They appear in late summer. Easy to grow and quite hardy. Matures to a pyramidal shape, worthy of the space to grow unhindered.

aka Fairy Blush Magnolia

Bred by in NZ by Mark Jury. A beautiful, easy to grow Michelia with dainty spring flowers which are delightfully fragrant and coloured an unusual lilac pink. The dark green foliage always looks good and is disease resistant. Happy in the sun or part shade.

I put 6 of these in my front garden a year ago and they have done remarkably well and seem quite robust. I intend to trim them up to make a standard shape but they do equally well left as a bush or used as a hedge.

Bred in NZ by Mark Jury this beautiful small tree is easy to grow in sun or part shade. Pure cream flowers with a wonderful fresh fragrance appear for a long period during spring. Bright green fresh foliage looks good all year round. Can be clipped too if you wish to use for hedging.

Bred in NZ by Mark Jury this beautiful small tree is easy to grow in sun or part shade. Pure white, fragrant flowers open from velvet brown buds in winter. Fresh foliage looks good all year round. Prefers acid soil.

Grandiflora. An attractive large tree with an upright dense habit. Leaves are highly polished and richly felted with bronze on the undersides. Flowers are large creamy white, globe shaped and fragrant. Great for using in floral art work.
