It is found only in the north of the North Island, to Kawhia on the west and East Cape on the east. Tarairi likes a good moist, free-draining soil. It has an attractive arching habit. The ribbed leaves are a fresh bright green and contrast with the very dark seed heads.

A beautiful cultivar of NZ's native Coprosma commonly known as the 'Mirror Plant' because of the glossy leaves. 'Scarlett O'Hara' has reddish orange variegated foliage that intensifies in colour when the temperatures are cool. Plant in sun or part shade and protect from harsh frost. Evergreen.

Coprosmas can be used for a little low hedge as they respond really well to trimming. The last trim before winter should be done no later than March.
