aka Black Protea

A lovely upright variety that has hairy, creamy/white flowers with a black beard. Flowers tend to Peek out through dense foliage of a matt green. Lovely in a floral display as a picked flower. Plant in a sunny position and like acidic free draining soil. Evergreen.

To have success with your Protea good drainage is essential. They like a nice light slightly acidic soil. They don't like fertilizer high in phosphates. Generally feeding is not necessary but a slow release with a low phosphate (P) rating is the safest to use. Any pruning should be done after flowering.

An erect, bushy shrub with medium sized greenish flowers with a prominent black beard. Intolerant of heavy soils so more suited to sandy loam well drained. Makes a lovely cut flower. Protect from frost when young. Good for coastal conditions and rockeries.

An attractive hybrid Protea. Flowering from Autumn to Spring the red flowers are loved by florist when there is not much colour around. Very free flowering and fast to produce. Prune well after flowering and suited to well drained soil in full sun.

Provide one deep watering per week during long periods of dryness.
