Yah!!! there has been some rain

Hi

It's not every day that the old boy turns 80 and how special is that. I'm sure that we keep him more than busy still doing the banking and all the town chores that would take us a heap of time. It's a bit like this, could Pete pick this up for us while he is in town. I even have to front up to the fact that I haven't found the time to paint the windows of the new and updated old shop that we have called the receive in office. I say to Pete, do you think that those hands could paint even just the putty in the new receive in office? Of course he just says yes, I guess that it's part of that old adage, Idle hands keeps us all being needed and busy. Pete never has time to be anything else and we are extremely grateful for that contribution. Lol  there is always the other side of the ledger and a sauv blanc or three is never far away for the ole boy.

He kinda felt obliged to paint those windows after the surprise party that we held in honour of those 8 decades and what a hoot that was. Cousins that flew in from all over NZ, new friends, old friends. It was a great evening that you know was a success from the general hum of conversation and the number of empties that went into the recycling.  I bet that even the team at the nursery put on a morning tea for ole Pete as he makes muffins for them at least three times a week...

The Sale Must Go On

Moving on from old people and onto stock that we need to move to make space for the new seasons roses. Roses are still up there at half price and they are good plants too, after all we have fed them and sprayed them all season.  Now you may need to give us a second choice as remember we are dealing with a living product and they have to go now.

We have all the flowering cherries all with $10 off existing stock.
Roses 50% off and they all have to go as I need the space now.
Pip and stone fruit $10.00 off.
Citrus $5.00 off.

It's not Harry but Ang this week that has been shopping for the sale

Ladys mantle. Just stunning as a border or mass planted.... just beautiful with moisture on it's leaves and we pick the flowers and put witjh red roses..... Very cool .... !!!!
Ajuga Jungle beauty. Great ground cover with larger than normal ajuga leaves and neat blue flowers.

Bottle Brush John Mashlan. Dare I say an aussie native that feed the Tuis here and looks good in the garden with those classic bottlebrush flowers. This variety has gorgeous bright pink flowers. No prizes for guessing how it got its common name.
Ake ake purple. A quick growing filler with purple foliage. Great filler in the garden or could even be used as a hedge, whatever takes your fancy.

Catmint Blue. Pretty blue perennial that is nearly always flower, cut back when not and will be again quite quickly, lovely with roses.

Passionfruit ... We all love passionfruit, preserve one cup of pulp to one cup sugar, bring to the boil  and simmer for a few mins, bottle in sterile jars that the caps will go down for later.

Rosmarinus. I cant go past this in the garden for cooking, great with most things from roasted spuddies to lamb, whatever turns your fancy add rosemary
Penstemons. An oldie but a goodie and tried in true, pretty flowers and then a good cut back and they will come again ... go for it...!!!

New in that Ang has got in especially for you
Heucheras. I love these and will have to mass plant some in my garden as they give grand coloured foliage effect.

Ericas. As we all know now related to Blueberries the antioxidant berry and gaultheria, the ground cover with pretty berries. Great colour at this time of year and an evergreen shrub.

Grevilleas. Pretty easy low maintenance shrubs that really suit those hot dry sunny positions and when in flower give nice colour. Easy and no fuss ....

It's rained and this is the best time of year to plant so get gardening and plant those trees and shrubs that yo want to get in. If not have great weekend doing fun things.....

Cheers

Lloyd, Harry and the team
