Native. A fabulous foliage plant ideal for group planting. Silvery, strap like foliage that is attractively flushed with red and bronze tones. The red colour intensifies in cold weather. Tolerant of sun or part shade but not tolerant of 'wet feet'.

Astelia look their best when group planted and they are a fabulous easy care architectural container plant.

aka Taraire

It is found only in the north of the North Island, to Kawhia on the west and East Cape on the east. Tarairi likes a good moist, free-draining soil. Although it tolerates shade, its form is fuller if grown in full sun. It will only tolerate a light frost, and is best provided with a wind break when young.

Has a classically pyramidal shape with striking tiers of branches that over time change to form a spreading canopy. Suitable as a speciman tree.

Native Fern. This fern earned its name from the attractive crown of bright green radiating fronds. The fronds are long, narrow and segmented and form a rosette. Gradually spreads. Loves moisture and shade with protection from harsh frost. Perennial.

A hardy popular fern that will grow in deep shade or in a more open site. New growth has red tones. Great for erosion control on banks as it has a good root system and if fast growing.

Native Fern. This fern is also known as the dwarf tree fern as it develops a short trunk when mature. Can be grown indoors or outdoors. Likes a warm shady spot in the garden with moist free draining soil.

Handsome shrub with attractive silver grey foliage with soft felted undersides. Bright yellow daisy flowers appear in summer but really the foliage is the main feature. Plant in a sunny well drained position. Tends to have a fairly open habit but can be trimmed to keep compact. Evergreen.

A bushy small native tree with large leaves that are green on top and with an attractive white felt underside. Fragrant creamy flowers are abundant in spring. Will grow in sun or semi-shade and prefers rich moist soil. Can be trimmed every year to keep nice and tidy. Evergreen.

Attractive NZ native grass that forms a clump of tussock-like foliage. The leaves are a dark bronze purple. Upright and graceful, looks fabulous planted in large drifts. Hardy to just about any conditions but happiest in a sunny position that does not dry out completely in summer. Evergreen.

Native Hair Sedge.. The name Comans means "luxuriant head of hair" and this native Tussock Grass certainly has a fine head of green needle foliage. Tolerant of just about any conditions including coastal. Quickly forms a clump and is invaluable for adding texture to the garden. Evergreen.
