A member of the Iris family that forms a large clump of erect, sword-like, light green, leathery foliage. Dainty pale yellow blooms with chocolate brown blotches will appear in spring-summer. Prefers well drained, humus rich soil and protection from harsh frost. Sun or part shade. Evergreen.

A popular member of the Iris family with narrow green sword like foliage and strong stems of open butterfly like blooms. The blooms have white falls with mauve standards and a splash of gold in the centre. Plant in sun or semi-shade and protect from harsh frost. Evergreen.

Dietes grandiflora is a dramatic landscaping plant when planted en masse and allowed to multiply. I've actually got one growing in a large terracotta pot which looks pretty good too.

A native to The Canary Islands it is a sculptural plant that can be grown inside or out. It has long narrow tapered grey/green leaves/limbs. They can withstand long periods of drought and require next to no watering as an indoor plant. Slow growing.
Suitable for warmer areas including Auckland/Northland

A rosette forming succulent. Its leaves are very deep blackish purple, making this one of the very darkest Echeveria. Leaves are thick, fleshy and pointed. In the very centre, where new leaves are formed, there's a bright lime green glow. Can be grown Indoors or in a sheltered position in the garden.

Like a fat slice of dark chocolate cake for your garden, this near-black succulent produces dense clumps of rosettes with leaves emerging green before darkening to brown. Easy to grow in soil with good drainage. Bright red flowers appear in Autumn. Tolerates some shade, best in full sun.
