A very useful little native for use as a ground cover or to drape over the edge of a container. Creeping soft stems of small maroon coloured foliage quickly forms a dense colourful mat. Happiest growing in a sunny well drained position. Will even do well in gravel. Evergreen.

Juvenile tree foliage tends to have copper bronze tones but green becomes the dominant colour as the tree ages. Protect from frost when young. One to plant for your grandchildren! Evergreen

Outstanding NZ native that forms a handsome spreading tree. Large, glossy, light green dissected foliage. Sprays of rusty red woolly flowers appear in summer followed by scarlet berries with jet black seeds. Will grow in quite exposed conditions but protect from harsh frost. Evergreen.

Wetland Native. Wind Grass. An attractive and hardy perennial grass that is ideal for mass planting in difficult spots. The leaves are long, narrow and dark green tinged with orange especially in the winter. The fluffy flowers appear on arching stems in summer and are purple-pink. Evergreen.

Wetland. A NZ (Oioi) Reed with fine grey-green needles of foliage with brown markings at intervals along the length of the leaves. Forms a large clump. Grows in water or in damp ground. Tolerates salty water. Very decorative in a pot and useful for floral work. Tough as. Evergreen.
May be toxic to animals.

Native-Wine Berry-Makomako
Serrated green leaves with purple tones to the under-side, clusters of pink flowers in spring which are followed by juicy black berries that birds love. Grows happily in the sun in most soils as long as they are not too dry. Tolerates light frost. Semi-evergreen.
Berries will only occur on the female tree if pollination occurs. The Wine-Berry has separate male and female trees. Attractive to Tui.

A small NZ native tree that will thrive in the damp. Very intolerant to dry soil. Leaves glossy, yellow green, with coarse black-tipped teeth on margins on dark purple-black stems. Flowers pinkish, in sprays. Good for growing on lowland forests and at the bottom of shaded gullies.
