aka Coffee Plant

An attractive cone shaped shrub with glossy green lanceolate leaves that flower white star-shaped flowers in spring. The clusters of flowers have a strong smell like Jasmine. Coffee berries turn green to red in time for Xmas. 3- 4 years to fruit. Can also be used as a houseplant. Self-fertile.

Coffee palnts are heavy feeders and require regular applications of a high NPK fertiliser through its growing season.
Suitable for warmer areas including Auckland/Northland

aka Blackcurrant

This has been the main commercial variety in New Zealand for many years. The extremely hardy plants produce large black fruit that are high in Vitamin C. Upright grower. Mid season, so ripens from late December to February. Great for making jams and desserts. Deciduous.

The Black Currant produces a fruit that is high in Vitamin C with a tart sharp taste. 'Magnus' is disease resistant, a reliable producer and has an upright habit. The currants are ripe late Dec-Jan. Delicious and deciduous.

Black currants will grow in sun or semi-shade. They like deep acid soil that does not completely dry out in summer when the fruit are setting. They fruit on the new seasons wood which develops after pruning.

Delicious shiny black round, juicy currants are a very rich source of vitamin C. They are relatively easy to grow and form attractive shrubs in the home landscape. This variety has been bred to produce big fat berries. Excellent in jams, jellies, juices and pies and they freeze easily. Self-fertile but improve harvest with a pollinator. Deciduous.

Requires less chill hours than traditional varieties.

Red currants are a great source of vitamin C. They are easy to grow and form attractive shrubs in the home landscape. The fruit can be picked fresh (if you beat the birds) or used for jams, jellies, juices and pies. Freezes well. Good heavy cropper. Ripe around December-January. Deciduous.

Red Currants differ from Black Currants in that they fruit on the older developed wood (branches) of the bush.

Prune the main shoots of your Red Currant back by about 1/2 in winter to encourage new fruiting laterals. Remember that Red Currants mainly fruit on older wood.

An heirloom variety which produces large red berries which ripen mid December. Packed full of Vitamin C and anti-oxidants you know they've got to be good for you. Plant in morning sun or part shade in soil that does not completely dry out in summer. Deciduous.
