Delicious shiny black round, juicy currants are a very rich source of vitamin C. They are relatively easy to grow and form attractive shrubs in the home landscape. This variety has been bred to produce big fat berries. Excellent in jams, jellies, juices and pies and they freeze easily. Self-fertile but improve harvest with a pollinator. Deciduous.
Requires less chill hours than traditional varieties.

Red Currants differ from Black Currants in that they fruit on the older developed wood (branches) of the bush.

Prune the main shoots of your Red Currant back by about 1/2 in winter to encourage new fruiting laterals. Remember that Red Currants mainly fruit on older wood.

The pulp is red with small black seeds. Very large (25-30 cm) white flowers open overnight and wither by morning.
