This Aussie will bring welcome colour to the garden during the dull winter months. The soft grey foliage is complemented by flowers in tones of red, pink and cream from winter to spring. Useful to provide quick cover on hot dry banks. Likes the sun and good drainage but not frost. Evergreen.

Hakea laurina is another species from Western Australia, there are various hybrids in cultivation. The wild species is an upright or sprawling shrub/small tree up to 6m. The flower heads are globe shaped, red in colour with bright white styles. Flowers in autumn and early winter.

This easy to grow shrub has small grey-green leaves and a broad habit. The flowers which appear in spring-summer are bright yellow with an attractive red marking in the centre. Happy in a warm, sunny, spot with good drainage, good coastal plant. Trim after flowering to keep tidy. Evergreen.

A truly wonderful small-growing, neat, upright, vase-shaped shrub that produces fragrant yellow blooms in late winter. The flowers are known by their spider like forms. Protect from the midday sun, give a cool moist climate. Stems of flowers look amazing in a vase and is a great way to prune the shrub. Deciduous, attractive autumn foliage.

An interesting neat, upright, shrub that produces fragrant red blooms in late winter. The flowers are characterized by their shaggy spider like form. Plant in sun or part shade in rich soil that does not dry out in summer. Deciduous.

Winter Rose. This variety has white to pale yellow saucer shaped flowers over several months in winter to early spring. The plant forms a bushy compact clump topped by the flowers which face outwards. Dark green, divided leathery leaves. Plant in well drained soil with good amount of organic matter. Perennial.

A beautiful, summer flowering, deciduous shrub perfect for those of you who love white. Tight buds unfurl to reveal large, glistening white, single blooms set against fresh green foliage. Plant in a sunny spot and prune after flowering if required. A firm favourite of mine.

This shrub is ideal for placing mid-border or if you wish enjoy as a container plant.

Heidi is a deciduous Hibiscus that is tolerant and hardy. The violet blue double blooms appear from summer through to autumn. Fresh green foliage and a nice compact habit make 'Heidi' suitable for the garden or a container. Tolerant of average garden conditions but happiest in the sun.
