A hybrid Grevillea from Australia that forms a broad upright bush. Deeply divided foliage, dark green on top, silvery underneath. Racemes of salmon pink flowers that birds and the bees love appear nearly all year round. Likes a sunny well drained spot with protection from harsh frost. Evergreen.

Grevilleas will grow quite happily in quite poor soil. They should not be over-fed and in fact thrive on a little bit of neglect. They are particularly intolerant of fertilizer with too much phosphorous and they don't like chicken manure either. If in doubt leave it out.

With its robust upright spreading habit it will be smothered in large clusters of stunning, deep orange flowers on the end of the branches from late Autumn to Spring. Prefers a well drained position in full sun. Prune for shape and size once flowering has finished.

The soft pink ‘spider’ flowers on this smaller, compact cultivar, show up beautifully against the bright green, dense foliage. Flowers appear late autumn into early spring and produce nectar for birds. Regarded frost hardy, it likes partial shade but prefers full sun. Moist well-drained soil. Evergreen.

This Aussie will bring welcome colour to the garden during the dull winter months. The soft grey foliage is complemented by flowers in tones of red, pink and cream from winter to spring. Useful to provide quick cover on hot dry banks. Likes the sun and good drainage but not frost. Evergreen.

Hakea laurina is another species from Western Australia, there are various hybrids in cultivation. The wild species is an upright or sprawling shrub/small tree up to 6m. The flower heads are globe shaped, red in colour with bright white styles. Flowers in autumn and early winter.

This easy to grow shrub has small grey-green leaves and a broad habit. The flowers which appear in spring-summer are bright yellow with an attractive red marking in the centre. Happy in a warm, sunny, spot with good drainage, good coastal plant. Trim after flowering to keep tidy. Evergreen.
