One of the biggest misconceptions in the world of gardening is that Roses are difficult and time-consuming to grow. Nothing could be further from the truth. Roses are easy to grow and are amongst the most tolerant of plants. Obviously, with the correct feeding and cultivation techniques they will perform to their absolute best. However even if you are the most neglectful gardener you should still be able to enjoy the perfection of a rose bush in bloom. After all Roses have endured since time as we know it began, and are still the most popular flower in the world today. So feel the fear and do it anyway - plant a rose or three. Bourbon. The slender canes of this lovely old fashioned rose are long and willow-like. The rose pink blooms are medium sized, perfectly cupped and fabulously fragrant. Repeats well from summer to autumn if treated kindly. From France 1872. Sometimes called 'The Shell Rose'.

Tea. Consistently popular world wide since its introduction in 1910. The Lady has long, copper-apricot buds that open to large, loose, double blooms of warm yellow. The stems and foliage have tones of purple-bronze which complement the blooms rather nicely. A heady, fruity fragrance is an added bonus.

Named after Lady Hillington the wife of Baron Hillington of Hillingdon Court, Uxbridge where the breeder of this rose, Lowe and Shawyer had a nursery.

Climber - Tea. Consistently popular around the world since its introduction in 1910. The deep apricot buds open to large, loosely filled double blooms with a heady fragrance of fruit and tea. Attractive bronze red foliage and relatively few thorns. Repeat flowers for months - the Lady is indeed a lovely rose. 1917.

This rose is also available in bush form and has been equally popular since its introduction in 1910.

Austin. Large, fullly cupped rosettes with outer petals that re-curve back slightly. Shaded a rich deep pink with a deliciously, fruity, fragrance with a hint of raspberry. Named for the late Baroness Strange who lived in Megginch Castle, Scotland. A good woman and a good rose. PVR. 2006.

Named after the poem/song (Do you remember learning this at school?) The Lady of Shalott written by Alfred Lord Tenneyson. On either side the river lie Long fields of barley and of rye..............
